LATIFI CONFIRMED FOR 2020
Canadian F2 driver Nicholas Latifi has been confirmed by Williams as their replacement for the outgoing Robert Kubica who will take up a support role within the team alongside competing in DTM.
Latifi will become the 15th Canadian driver to ever take part in a Formula One World Championship and will race against fellow countryman Lance Stroll in 2020.
Former Canadian drivers include the likes of Gilles and Jacques Villeneuve. Jacques being the only Canadian F1 driver to ever win a World Championship (1997). The Villeneuve duo and Stroll are currently the only Canadian drivers to ever score points in a Formula One race out of the 11 other Canadian drivers who have graced the Formula One grid.
Latifi is set for second place in the F2 Championship behind ART driver Nick de Vries and a place above the Uni-Virtuosi driver Luca Ghiotto.
This announcement means the grid is complete for the 2020 season.
The grid for 2020 is as follows;
Mercedes: Hamilton / Bottas
Ferrari: Vettel / Leclerc
Red Bull: Verstappen / Albon
McLaren: Sainz / Norris
Renault: Ricciardo / Ocon
Toro Rosso: Kvyat / Gasly
Racing Point: Perez / Stroll
Alfa Romeo: Raikkonen / Giovinazzi
HAAS: Grosjean / Magnussen
Williams: Russell / Latifi
The drivers we lose from this year include Kubica (who as previously mentioned will race in DTM and continue with Williams in a support role) and Hulkenberg who's future is yet to be decided.
