HAMILTON STEALS VICTORY UNDER SAFETY CAR

Lewis Hamilton has taken victory at Bahrain after a mechanical failure lost the composed Charles Leclerc his first F1 victory under safety car conditions - where Mercedes managed a one-two which may surprise many after Ferrari locked out the front row in qualifying.

After a difficult start for Leclerc with large amounts of wheel spin off the line the young man from Monaco managed to recover quickly getting himself into first once more. It looked certain that Leclerc would win his first race after achieving his first pole the day before.

However with late drama it was Lewis Hamilton who managed to take victory alongside team mate and Australian race winner Valtteri Bottas who finished second - the safety car was deployed after both Renault's stopped towards the end of the race (which lost the team valuable points). Its not all bad however for Leclerc as he still managed third (for his first podium in F1).

It could have been a one - two for Ferrari if it weren't for the moment when Vettel lost his front wing in dramatic style on the straight heading into turn 8*. Pictured below:

The retirements from the race include: Romain Grosjean: HAAS / Carlos Sainz: McLaren / Daniel Ricciardo & Nico Hulkenberg: Renault.

The top ten: Hamilton / Bottas / Leclerc / Verstappen / Vettel / Norris / Raikkonen / Gasly / Albon / Perez.
